DECADE
10th anniversary exhibition
From June 16 to August 28, 2016
Opening June 16, 5 pm
Ten years have gone by since the gallery opened at 1000, Amherst Street. Ten years of discoveries, experimentation, encounters and anecdotes, of moments of joy and others of self-questioning. In short, ten years that went by at lightning speed.
Since the very beginning, the determination to make people discover the work of professional artists of my generation has been paramount. Over the years, over 70 solo and collective exhibitions have been shown in our premises and participation in at least twenty events and fairs in Quebec, Canada and abroad can be added to this score. Ten years on, in a space that has trebled in surface area, torn between a sense of accomplishment and the awareness that a lot still remains to be done in a precarious market context, the desire to go forward is still there.
The exhibition DECADE is not a look back, but more of a meeting of works chosen to underline and celebrate the event by perpetuating the idea of discoveries that has shaped the gallery’s identity. It is therefore with a great deal of enthusiasm that I am inviting artists, collectors, friends, art-world insiders and the media to come celebrate with us. All those who, in whatever capacity, have contributed to the gallery’s dynamism and lasting presence. This exhibition gathering the work of a dozen of our artists will go on until August 28. As for our fall 2016 line-up, it will be taken up by artists Daniel Barkley, Andrew Smith and Étienne Lafrance.
Gallerist’s wish
We all have a role to play in the development of our culture and it is vital that we recognize the value of artists in our society. So please allow me to take this opportunity to awaken or stimulate the philanthropic fiber in you. In my view, a genuine philanthropic approach means being a consumer of culture, concretely living with the art of our time on a daily basis and championing it, giving witness to the world in which we live by providing our artists with the visibility and means they need in order to leave their mark on history, our history.
