La Galerie Dominique Bouffard est heureuse de présenter une exposition portant un regard sur l’idée de la narration dans l’art contemporain. L’événement, réunissant principalement des artistes-peintres, mais aussi un vidéaste et un photographe, sera clôturé par la présentation de RubIkonte, une soirée de contes contemporains diffusée le 28 février dans le cadre de Nuit Blanche à Montréal du Festival Montréal en lumière.

Depuis toujours, l’homme utilise l’art comme véhicule pour transmettre culture, histoire et connaissances. Des grottes de Lascaux aux cathédrales en passant par les civilisations grecque et égyptienne, des dessins, peintures et bas-reliefs aux formes plus ou moins codifiées ornent vases et tombeaux, témoignant d'histoire et de mythes culturels ou religieux.
Le terme « Figuration narrative » fait officiellement son apparition en France au milieu des années 60, alors que la nouvelle figuration fait opposition à l’abstraction, au nouveau réalisme et au mouvement pop art, dont il n’est pas très éloigné. Inspiré entre autres par la bande dessinée, le cinéma et la publicité, ce mouvement artistique apparaît principalement dans la peinture et exploite le plus souvent des scènes de la vie quotidienne et des thèmes rattachés à des revendications sociales ou politiques.

Plus globalement, l’art narratif implique d’abord l’idée de conter, de transmettre un récit par le verbe, le son ou l’image. À travers les tendances esthétiques et idéologiques inhérentes à chaque époque ou génération, l’art narratif perdure. L’exposition ART ET NARRATION propose de revisiter le genre par les œuvres d’Isa B, de Daniel Barkley, Sébastian Maltais, de Stéphanie Morissette et de Nicolas Ranellucci, artistes représentés par la galerie, et d’artistes invités : Vincent Lafrance, Vincent London, Vitaly Medvedovsky, Réjean Meloche et finalement Claude Bibeau (à titre posthume).

Rubikonte: contes contemporains pour Nuit blanche

La Quadrature, collectif de création en conte contemporain, en collaboration avec la Galerie Dominique Bouffard, présentera, dans le cadre de Nuit Blanche à Montréal, trois conteurs à découvrir lors de l'évènement Rubikonte, contes au cube. Les Prétendants (un duo de conteurs composé de Sylvain Racine et de Paul Bradley) seront accompagnés de Kajé (Kevin Gravier) lors de trois performances de contes qui auront lieu le 28 février à 21h, 22h et 23h à la Galerie Dominique Bouffard. Des contes contemporains, futuristes et néo-traditionnels y seront présentés pour le plus grand plaisir tant des amateurs que des connaisseurs, soulignant ainsi le dernier jour de l'exposition en art visuel ART ET NARRATION.

ART ET NARRATION ( Art and narrative)

 

Galerie Dominique Bouffard is happy to present an exhibition that looks at the idea of narrative in contemporary art. The event, bringing together mainly painters, but also a video artist and a photographer, will close with an event called Rubikonte, an evening of contemporary tales that will be taking place on February 28 as part of the Nuit Blanche of Festival Montréal en lumière.

Since time immemorial, man has been using art as a medium to transmit culture, history and knowledge. From the caves of Lascaux to the cathedrals through Greek and Egyptian civilization, drawings, paintings and bas-reliefs, with more or less codified forms, have adorned vases and graves, bearing witness to history and cultural or religious myths. The term "Figuration narrative" officially makes its appearance in France in the mid-1960s, when new figuration stands in opposition to abstraction, to “nouveau réalisme” and to pop art, from which it is however not very distant. Inspired among other things by comic strips, cinema and advertising, this artistic movement appears mainly in painting and most often uses as topics scenes from daily life and social and political demands.

More generally, narrative art first of all entails the idea of recounting, of transmitting a narrative through words, sounds or images. Through all the aesthetic trends and ideologies inherent in each era or generation, narrative art endures. The exhibition ART ET NARRATION proposes to revisit the genre through the works of Isa B, Daniel Barkley, Sébastian Maltais, Stéphanie Morissette and Nicolas Ranellucci, artists represented by the gallery as well as guest artists Vincent Lafrance, Vincent London, Vitaly Medvedovsky, Réjean Meloche and, posthumously, Claude Bibeau.

 

 

Rubikonte: contemporary tales for Nuit Blanche

La Quadrature, a creation collective in contemporary storytelling, in collaboration with the Galerie Dominique Bouffard, will present as part of the Montreal Nuit Blanche three storytellers worth discovering at the event Rubikonte, contes au cube. Les Prétendants (a tandem of storytellers made up of Sylvain Racine and Paul Bradley) will be accompanied by Kajé (Kevin Gravier) in three performances of tales that will take place at 9, 10 and 11 PM at the Galerie Dominique Bouffard. Contemporary, futuristic and neo-traditional tales will be presented for the pleasure of newcomers and aficionados alike, underlining the last day of the visual arts exhibition ART ET NARRATION.
