Le nouveau travail de Sylvain Lessard propose des exercices de «zoom in» et de «zoom out» référant aux notions d’échelles liées à l’architecture et à l’urbanisme. Dans ses œuvres peintes à l’acrylique, l’utilisation de dispositifs chromatiques et géométriques crée des effets optiques exprimant des concepts, des trames et des symboles qui renvoient directement à l’architecture et aux formes urbaines. L’ensemble de l’exposition - «zoom out» - se fragmente en de multiples détails - «zoom in». Le spectateur est invité à appréhender ces détails individuellement et à créer des liens entre eux afin de décoder la logique générale du corpus.

Note biographique

Architecte de métier, Sylvain Lessard a en parallèle une pratique soutenue en art visuel depuis le début des années 2000. Son travail a principalement été diffusé au Québec à travers le réseau des maisons de la Culture et des centres d’artistes autogérés. Ayant d’abord exploré les liens entre les éléments organiques du corps humain et l’architecture, aujourd’hui ses œuvres portent surtout un regard sur le territoire et l’urbanisme. (-30-)

Sylvain Lessard’s new work displays ways to “zoom in” and “zoom out” referring to notions of scale tied to architecture and urbanism. In his works painted with acrylics, the use of chromatic and geometric devices creates optical effects expressing concepts, frameworks and symbols directly connected to architecture and urban forms. The exhibition as a whole – “zoom out” - fragments into multiple details – “zoom in”. The spectator is invited to perceive these details individually and to create links between them in order to decipher the general logic of this body of work.

Biographical Note

An architect by trade, Sylvain Lessard also has a sustained visual arts practice since the beginning of the century. His work has mostly been shown in Quebec through the network of the maisons de la Culture and of self-run artist centres. Having first explored the links between organic elements of the human body and architecture, he now deals mostly with issues of territory and urbanism.  (-30-)
